The first ever Athletics World Cup to be hosted in London

London Stadium will play host the inaugural Athletics World Cup on the 14 – 15 July.

Eight top nations will compete for the prize money of £1.42m over two evening sessions under the floodlights of the London Stadium, home of the London 2012 Olympic Games and IAAF World Championships 2017.

The debut World Cup will see the very best athletes showcase their talents to claim the prestigious title of world champion for their country. With what’s set to be an incredible atmosphere, the stage is ready to see the next era of athletics stars make history.

Following on from London’s successful hosting of the IAAF World Athletics and World Para Athletics championships last summer, the new tournament will feature all field and track events up to and including the 1500 metres.

The two-day event will see one male and one female athlete from each nation selected straight into a final contest, meaning fans will experience an evening of thrilling finals on both sessions. As well as Great Britain, confirmed participants are the United States, China, Germany, France, Jamaica, South Africa and Poland.

In a tribute to the host nations’ history, the first ever Athletics World Cup will also be honouring 100 years since women were given the right to vote in Britain, with all nations selecting a female athlete as team captain to mark the occasion. Organisers are expecting sell-out crowds of about 55,000 on both days.
