England squad start their preparations for the Old Mutual Wealth Series Autumn Internationals
In the build up to the first Rugby World Cup in Asia in 2019, all eyes were on the England Rugby team as Eddie Jones put his squad through a three-day training camp in Oxfordshire ahead of the Old Mutual Wealth Series at Twickenham this year.
There were some new names to join the training squad, including promising fly-half Marcus Smith, who made his first team debut for Harlequins at just 18 years old in September, giving us a hint at Eddie Jones’ vision for the Rugby World Cup 2019 squad.
The 33-man strong squad caused some controversy with four prominent British and Irish Lions names missing out, with James Haskell, Kyle Sinkler and Jonathan Joseph failing to make the cut and George Kruis being ruled out through injury. The three-day training camp took place on Sunday 24th September in Oxfordshire, ahead of the highly anticipated Old Mutual Wealth Series Autumn Internationals starting in November. England Rugby fans are now eagerly awaiting the announcement of the confirmed squad to face Argentina in England’s opening match at Twickenham on Saturday 11th November.
With only two years to go until Rugby World Cup 2019, there’s undoubtedly going to be a huge focus on how the England Rugby team perform in the autumn games, and fans will be wondering if the team can maintain the form that has seen them win 20 out of 21 games in the last two years. With two Six Nation wins, including one Grand Slam, and an unbeaten tour of Australia and Argentina, rugby fans have had some iconic rugby moments since Jones took over as manager, and the Old Mutual Wealth Series is set to be just as thrilling.
